Largely unnoticed, Detroit’s Underground Resistance seems to have established a hidden colony in the southern offshoots of the Hungarian plain in the late 90s. Ten years later, the seed yielded fruit in the form of Radak. Based on classic analog synthesis, his sound resuscitate the uncompromised energy of old-school Elektro music, with clear reminiscences of Dopplereffekt, Aux 88 and Drexciya and their likes. Alongside a live-performance by Radak, Periscope Rádío’s resident DJ Sowjet will be contributing one of his notorious Detroit-Elektro sets for the night. Last not least, Dubsquare’s Boris & IZC will be accounting for the usual blend of Dubstep, Techno and Experimental.

Robert Henke from Monolake has posted an extensive interview with Rashad Becker on his website. Working for Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin for more than a decade now as well as running his own mastering-studio, Becker has gained the reputation of one of the best mastering engineers for electronic music.

Six months after a fire at a refugee-camp in Klagenfurt, Austria which killed a 42-year-old man from Ghana and left 16 people injured, the prosecution-authority has issued a statement in which it claims that the blaze is very likely to have been set. Despite a large presence of Neo-Nazis as a consequence of the UEFA EURO 2008™ match between Germany and Poland which took place on the following day, the local police had announced only one day after the incident, that the fire was caused by an accidentally thrown away cigarette. The already marginal media-coverage didn’t get tired to cynically emphasize that the tragic consequences were to a large extend the vicitims’ own fault: some trash in which filter-tips were found would have been placed “illegally” next to the entrance. And Austria’s state-TV ORF even spoke of “wrong reactions” by the inhabitants of the building: “They jumped out of the windows in panic, as they would have never thought that help would arrive so quickly. Experience from their home-coutries has told the people, to flee fire immediately as they don’t have a fire-fighting-culture compareable to ours.” The facts, that the windows of the gound-floor were barred, that only one single woman attempted to rescue the locked-in people and the most injured persons suffered from intoxication, left largely unmentioned.

In another incident in Vienna, a street-seller of Augustin, a local magazine made and sold by homeless people, accused several police-officers of serious maltreatment. According to a memory-protocol which was published by the magazine, the man – a Romni originally from Slovakia – was forced to undress, knee down and had to loudly agree to one of the officer’s claim, that “gypsies are stinking”. After imposing a fine of 168,- Euros the man was released from the police-station.
